3D Printing Concrete

The Future Belongs To Those Who See Possibilities Today

Inspired By Excellence & Innovation

ABOUT US

Our research group in the area of 3D concrete printing is part of the C3S group (Concrete Sustainability and Smart Structures) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Comprised of PhDs, researchers and doctoral students, it is an interdisciplinary group highly focused and committed to developing and enhancing concrete technology from a point of view based on knowledge, efficiency, technique and sustainability.

OUR VALUES

We conduct our research looking for solutions able to generate knowledge and develop new materials and construction techniques to optimise current procedures and methodologies for the production of concrete elements and structures. We base our activity on the development of new materials for 3D concrete printing using materials with advanced properties to meet current and future requirements.

We strive our efforts in the development of new cementitious materials, seeking sustainability and the reduction of the carbon footprint through the incorporation of recycled aggregates, the use of alternative binders and the use of local raw materials. We investigate new structural typologies taking advantage of the freedom of geometries that 3D printing allows, as well as the reduction of material consumption through topological optimisation. We believe in the digitalisation and sensorization of concrete for the construction of smart structures, capable of providing data to improve their efficiency and improve decision making.

Our goal is to achieve the generalisation of the use of concrete 3D printing in the construction industry through the improvement of materials and construction procedures. 3D concrete printing will enable the development of new materials and technologies, rationalising the consumption of resources and improving the sustainability of new constructions and structures.

We are committed to a multidisciplinary perspective that allows us to approach challenges from different points of view, seeking the optimal solution by combining and applying the accumulated experience and cutting-edge knowledge of different disciplines in a joint and transversal perspective. We propose alternative solutions, as well as innovative and attractive proposals, prioritising the quality of research.

As researchers, we firmly believe in the exchange and dissemination of knowledge as a fundamental part of growth. In the field of concrete 3D printing, we work and collaborate with research centres and researchers from different universities to exchange knowledge to develop new ideas and solutions that add value to the current ones.

We explore how to improve new applications and sustainability in concrete technology. We develop responsible research committed to society, providing scientific and technical knowledge through an inclusive and diverse environment that allows the growth and development of researchers and professionals.
